Neck Pain Treatment in Spartanburg, South Carolina
Traditional Ineffective Treatments
Injections:
Cortisone Injections-Short term pain relief for some individuals, long term increased degeneration of tissues with continued use
PRP/Stem Cell Injections- Often comes with a 5-figure price tag and not uncommon to fail at solving your problem
Surgeries:
Laminectomy/Decompression- Cutting off some bone for more spacing. I would save this for individuals that are getting weak and losing sensation drastically. Cases of “pinched nerves” tend to self resolve and do well with conservative management
Spinal Fusion-Last resort, maybe even not a resort. Severe loss of motion in the neck, pain often the same if not worse afterwards
Medications:
Daily Anti-inflamitories- Prolonged use can cause GI bleeds and other negative side effects
Opioids- Highly addictive, effectiveness decreases overtime, often causes painful areas to become even more sensitive
Neck pain is a common pest . For a lot of people the requirement of sitting for most of their day isn’t helpful . Don’t get me wrong….. I’m not saying posture is the problem, I’m saying being in the same posture for toooooooo long is a problem. Motion is key, so sit slouched, then straight, then off to the side, stand up, MOVE around PLEASE. I’ll calm down but I understand the frustration that comes with neck pain. Tension can build in this area whether someone is active in the gym or sitting at their desk. It leads to headaches, pain down the upper back, nerve issues, and feeling overwhelmed that you never feel relaxed. You stretch constantly only to sleep wrong one night and then barely be able to move the next morning. Most people have no idea that training the neck to be STRONG and MOBILE is key to a less tension. The physical matters, but so does your stress. The spine is notorious for stiffening up or dialing pain higher when we are stressed. And I’ll say it in every section: “Imaging like MRI/X-rays doesn’t correlate with pain and function. People have all kinds of abnormalities on imaging with no issue, and others have squeaky clean results with 8-10/10 pain. So we must take a step back and find what contributes to your neck pain and develop a plan.
